I'm not sure if this is the write place for this topic, but I've been offered a BMW e30 1989 for free. It has a bit of rust and but the engine starts. Hasn't been on the road in a long time.

Does anyone know whether it would be worthwhile getting it on the road again as a second car...wud it be vintage insurance, tax etc?

Where would be the best place to seek advice on bodywork?

    Thanks in advance

Join E30 Owners all the advice you need would be there. It does not qualify for Vintage tax yet its still too young.

The E30 is an ideal car though for a project and has a massive fanbase. If the rust is too much though beware it could be a step too far. Check around the the window sills and firewall its a painful area.

    As Listermint say, join e30owners.

If it's not to rusty it's worth keeping, good ones are becoming harder to find as rust is taking hold of them. Being a free car, I wouldn't say no to it!

If your around Dublin I could have a look at it with you and see what it's like? The main area's are, sills, sunroof tray (open the sunroof to see if its rusting under the roof skin), scuttle, rear pockets in the boot, underneat where the body meets the wings, some more area's to check but those are the obvious ones.

You'll be able to get a classic insurance policy if you use it as a second car with the likes of First Ireland, FBD, Carole Nash etc.

That's great thanks for the replies

I think the rust is bad enough on the doors. The car is in Monaghan, so I might get onto that forum and see if there's anyone up there that would have a gander at it.

    Thanks again.

There are a few breakers that might have door, in the same colour. Rust to the shell would be my main thing to look for, any thing like doors, bushes etc can all be replaced with new/refurbished/second hand.

+1 on the E30 owners club

If she isnt worth saving then she will be a good source of spares for others and the lads will only be too happy to collect !!

Another good irish site is Bmw-driver.net
Have gotten lots of bit off other members there over the last couple of years. Have saved fortunes. If the rust is only on replaceable parts and isnt too serious, it could well be something thats easily resurrected.
