the mileage seems ridiculously high for a 2005. 280k is around 170/180m! so around 17/18k a year over the 10 years

That's about right for a diesel to be honest. OP, are you sure that's a comfortline? Did they not come with alloys as standard?

The 1.9 is a generally very reliable engine, I think the BXE ones were prolematic, I could be wrong though!

seems like a lot of money, as said, €4.5k for 105bhp, 175k miles, 12 week warranty, poverty spec car. what are you buying only the badge on the boot?

just saying. i know they hold good money, but 4.5k would probably buy a nicer diesel saloon.

i don't doubt that, just wonder why you'd want it. sounds pathetic, but it doesn't even have alloys or front fogs.

Had a few problems with a 2005 1.9tdi myself before I got rid. They all all fairly common problems from what I read after the fact.

    1. Dual mass flywheel needed replacement
    2. Steering rack went
    3. Electric brake went

They may all have already ben repaired but if not they are an expensive fix especially the DMF and clutch

it pretty much poses the exact same problem, it's just 2 grand more expensive.

It will get 2 year test from test date of he tests it more than 90 days early. Seeing as its tested to August 15, he would want to be testing it shortly.
Alternatively, if tested within 90 days, it will get a cert to August 16.

170k miles on a 10 year diesel car is hardly excessive for the year. Back then they were bought with the intention of being driver rather than just for cheaper tax.

In saying that those early B6 Passats were known to have issues, try and find a decent 04/05 B5 model instead imo.

I know the early B6 was known to be trouble. I wonder if that could still be an issue at all. Surely at this stage, the items that were giving trouble have all been replaced with updated parts as fitted to 08 onwards cars.
Having said that, we had a very early B6 here from new in 05 and there's were no issues with it apart from a fuel cooler falling off. This was subject to a recall about 2 weeks after.
That mileage is average I would have thought for the age.
