Strike impact on Exams

There is an ongoing dispute between staff at the tyndall institute and ucc which has led to 4 days of strike action being called.

On one of those days - 13th May - the pickets will be on the main campus.

As security staff being SIPTU members will not pass a SIPTU picket can we assume that the exams scheduled for that day will be postponed as buildings will not be open or attended to ?

The students union have said that exams wouldn't be affected. And I haven't seen anything suggesting otherwise.

the main campus cannot open on health and safety grounds without security and certain other staff present

if the strikes go ahead then the campus will be shut on 13th

only saving grace is that it is the 4th planned day of action and hopefully UCC management will have come to their senses by then

I know it's already posted here but the student union email said that the strikes wouldn't affect exams.

Just to reinforce this as you seem to want to get out of an exam on the 13th, exams WILL go ahead and it will NOT be a valid excuse to miss them. This holds true until otherwise notified by the SU/College.

Just for more information: It's only SIPTU members in Tyndall that are on strike, and the union is telling other SIPTU members to work as normal.

So, keep studying, the exams won't be affected :)

Latest update: UCC secured an injunction in the high court, so the industrial action planned for Wednesday will not go ahead.
