Just got approval for the grant for fitting an external agitation point - at the mo we have to stir it from inside, a dangerous carry-on. Anybody done the job of cutting existing tank and grafting on an extra piece or similar before? whats the likely cost using a contractor?..is it a job we could consider doing ourselves (with some help as necessary). Thanks :)

It wouldn't be a job to chance yourself unless your pretty good with concrete. There's seals and laps that need to go in that can be tricky enough to get right. Taking out the end wall, digging and cleaning out the tank are all jobs that you could probably do yourself.

We're fairly handy, although the wedge of conditions from the Dept would nearly put one off doing anything.
anyone give a ballpark figure of what a contractor would charge for one of these extensions?

Weweeeelll, we finally got there - got contractor in..good job - a few piccies for yez - see the balls of an agitation system where the agitator ran down a track into the baffle at the bottom of the wall in the tank - it sure was a pleasure to see that hoor coming out!

Was €8250 inc vat for 2 tanks, slats, and manholes - will get 40% back from safety grant - I'm happy with that

So it was really 4950 +vat and the builder pocketed the grant.
Better off if the grant was given for land drainage and reseeding land that keeping another industry afloat.
    Just my humble opinion.

It's a cheap job if it prevented a farm death and saved someone's life. Which is the whole point of the scheme.

How much is an external agitating slat as a matter of interest?

You miss my point I've 2 sheds here both build to last grant specs one when the grant was out the other without the difference in price?

where did you get that? delivered?

I did a bit of pricing around - a number of contractors didnt even quote, was too awkward a job- I reckon it was fair value, there was a heap of fairly unpleasant hard work to cutting out the old tank end - working in a foot of shyte - and the end walls had to be reinstated, all takes time - and it'll make for an easier life -

How would you join the old floor with the new, without it leaking? The walls too actually?

I seen a lad cutting in large angle iron the full lenght which is chemical anchored in. The rebar is then tacked onto the other side of it. there's this stuff like mastic ran down on the old edge and then just shutters up and pour.
