Diesel at 1.28 less miles than diesel at 1.30

l usually buy diesel from a well known garage in area as they were always the cheapest until 2 months.
l get 25e worth of diesel at 1.28 and would get roughly 230 miles and one day l was in kerry and l had to get diesel. l got 25e diesel at 1.30, l got 255 miles!

So since then, its still happening. If l buy from my local garage, its never more than 230 miles yet buy from any different garage, l would get alot more miles. It has same amount of litres
l always wait till l have 5 miles left before l fill it again.

l have said it to few people and they have noticed it as well
One person said you could hear the air whooshing in the pipe as when you are filling the tank
Next time l'm going to fill the tank up to the top, from my local garage and see how many miles l get, repeat again and then go to other garages to see if there is any difference.

    Has this happened to anyone?

25 miles extra across a tank of fuel is a pretty small difference. i measure my miles per tank every fill and it's always different, even though my car does identical trips week to week. a few minutes extra idling in traffic or a couple of minutes driving a little faster than usual on a sunny day etc are the reasons for these differences.

until you do the method you mentioned by brimming, calculating and brimming again you have no proof of anything.

Unless you drive the exact same roads at the same speed and fill your tank to the neck and drive till its empty and fill
Again then there is no way of telling if one fuel is giving better economy than another.

Hills, weather, load, road surface, tyre pressure can all effect mpg and therefore give varying mpg figures each fill. 25npg is too small a difference to be able to determine if it's fuel or environment.

    +1

Not too much difference there, nothing to be too worried about. So long as it's a well known garage and not a dodgey looking place I wouldn't have any problem filling up there.

It could be as simple as your local petrol station is downhill from your destination and the other station is uphill from your destination.

    Oh deffo a conspiracy.

Canvas your local td. Set up a road block outside the station. Get youself a megaphone.

The brimming method is the only real accurate method.

If you are convinced you are being shortchanged , they can be reported, or just go somewhere else for petrol

You could also check that you are actually getting the volume of Diesel that you are paying for.
Next time bring a fuel can and put exactly 4 or 5 litres of fuel (go by the pump) into it.
When you get home use a proper graduated container to measure how much fuel you actually bought.
