    In 1967, the American athlete Kathrine Switzer, became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon. I didn't know that the ban on women was lifted so relatively recently.

    Off the ball on newstalk interviewed her last November/December if I remember correctly. Should be easy enough to dig it up online and it was a very interesting interview too.

    Bobbi Gibb was the first woman, in 1966, to run Boston, though without an official entry:
