My friend came to me today in tears she turned up to work as normal only to find it closed and a letter on the door saying closed due to bank foreclosure. This means all who worked there are out of a job. she is owned two weeks money and she didn't even get any notice of or hint of this was happening. I dont know what to say to her really. what's the normal procedure here for some one in her predicament??

She should apply to DSP for redundancy

No limit, 3 yrs should still get it ,a trip to Citizens Advice will be a big help.

Well some people will obviously get more but 7 weeks pay is something to take away while looking for a new job.

Seeing as it's a "closed due to bank foreclosure" situation, she needs to find out if a receiver has been appointed.

If they have, then the receiver is responsible for issuing P45s and working out how much else staff (and everyone else) is owed and what to do about it.

If they haven't (the boss could have just put up a notice saying that), then you have to keep chasing him. (And pray that he's been handing over your tax money to Revenue for the last however-many months/years!)

Your friend may need to use local networks to chase the boss down? TD's. Newspapers. Councillors. Neighbours. Etc. (There was something in a paper about a Centra? in Limerick closing unexpectedly this week - articles like that may give some clues where to look.).

Also, your friend should go to Welfare and get a claim started even if she hasn't got the P45 yet. They know full well what can happen in these sorts of cases, and do have policies for dealing with situations like this.

She rang the revenue and they didn't know that this place had closed down, they also said it was a complete bank take over as 11 million was owed and they took everything from the owners. from what i understand the owners went in and stripped everything of value and closed the doors. It turns out also that the companies others business are also in the same predicament. Social seems clueless on the matter.
