    See link:

Interesting to see it being rolled out for runway 10; good system in place for when (hopefully) the parallel runway is built.

The fuel saving aspect is another good selling point for attracting airlines into Dublin and is great for existing airlines.

Last year 31% of all flights used 10, a significant chunk in addition to 28, in terms of fuel and time saving.

Newbie question, what FL do the birds fly Point Merge arcs? While this works well over the see, is there not restricted zones/levels for Weston, Baldonnel/Military?!

    Looks like FL80 and 70

It's a potential fuel saving procedure, but certainly not guaranteed that every arrival will save fuel because of it.
While flying 50 miles around the arc level at FL70, we often ask ourselves how this is possibly saving fuel. ;) In times of delays, in a traditional hold one can maintain higher (more fuel efficient) altitudes for longer.

Through familiarity with airports, information in company airfield briefs, airmanship, etc, many airlines will achieve CDAs on the majority of their arrivals without the complexity of point merges style arrivals.

Certainly, but with a parrallel runway running simultaneous operations, I wouldn't imagine Dublin being as congested.

Good point, didn't look at it in that way.

Good presentation on point merge made by IAA at PM conference. Seems to have been a lot of kerfuffle about airlines not being happy with it due to perceived fuel inefficiency - anyone have any other info on it? Seems to be that the optimisation was initially made for ATC efficiency without taking into account the fuel burn. i.e. as pointed out the sequencing leg needed to be changed/shortened. Would seem that airlines were maybe not as well prepared but overall once everyone gets used to it it'll mean considerable savings for the main operators.

Yeah it's seriously lacking CDA (continuous descent approach) features like other airports' arrivals.

Flying 230kts at FL70 around Dublin Bay may be great for sight seeing but it doesn't help fuel burn.

I hope this is something the IAA may address later once ATC is familiar with the procedure.

Are the waypoints already set on this new point merge approach for RW10? Gonna have to learn more way points when listening to ATC. Very familiar with BAGSO 1L and LAPMO on 28 :D

    Point Merge = Pointless
How the IAA manage to unnecessarily over complicate a basic airport is unreal. It's also impossible to get a 330 off the arc and stabilised on the approach without doing a dirty dive with speed brake etc. why can't they just have a straightforward STAR with a few holds. Like every other airport.

So what advantages does it have?
