Hi guys! Hoping to be able to pick your brains a bit :)

Currently driving a 01 micra which I got as my first car last summer. Passed the NCT the beginning of this month so have decided to sell it and get something new. Originally bought the car as a learner car and it's served it's purpose wonderfully but is a bit rough on the body so would like to get something a bit tidier.

Budget is 2000, want to stick with a hatchback but would like to get something larger than 1L engine. Have been looking at a few Fiestas 03-06 and I like the look of them, but just wondering if anyone has any other recommendations for me to keep an eye out for.

I do about 130 miles a week, so would the 1.25 petrol or the 1.4 diesel be a better option? I'm thinking petrol but just want to be sure!

Have also seen a 03 Suzuki Ignis, now they're not the prettiest things in the world but how are they reliability wise? Also keeping an eye out for a 1.4 Corolla but they seem a bit pricey, very popular I suppose! I don't want a yaris because I want to go up a bit in size, and I don't like the newer micras at all!

Had to get some work done on the micra due to rust to pass NCT so looking to avoid that hassle again if possible, is there any models out there that are particularly prone to rust or is it just pot luck? I've been told before that Japanese cars can be more prone to it but I honestly don't know whether to believe that or not :roll eyes:

I have no preference with regards 3/5 doors because there's never really any more than two people in the car. Car doesn't need to be top spec because I'm planning on saving up over the next while to get something better, but can't afford much more than 2000/2500 at the moment.

Any suggestions welcome at all :)

130 miles a week is small so you don't need a diesel car. Fiesta is a good choice but with your small budget you will barely be getting into a 2003 newer shape model.

Just a suggestion but would not make more sense to keep the Micra going for another while and save up to increase your budget. If the Micra is mechanically sound and it has a fresh NCT then imo I'd keep it going for another 12 months until your budget is bigger.
