Just heard the end of John Clarke. He did an odd sign off can't remember exactly what he said but something along the lines of "until we meet again bye and thanks for the memories" followed by Tom Petty, The last DJ which was the last song he played on 2FM. I wonder is he taking a break from the jukebox or am I just reading too much into it?

Just seemed a very odd sign off compared to his usual "until next week" type finish. Hopefully I am wrong.

I heard him and there's no need to panic. He's not going anywhere in fact it's the start of a new venture at RTE as the latest strategy statement has stated that they want to expand RTE Digital Radio services.

It still has a huge listenership since its move to RTE Gold. I noted at the last JNLR RTE never released their weekend figures since John's departure.
A lot of people have made the switch and are listening far and wide around the globe. It's a shame FM listeners are missing out.

I find I listen to his show in the car these days. The listen back feature on the RTE Radio player is gift. My car has an AUX port built into the radio so I plug my phone into the car stereo and off I go!

Sunday lunchtime ratings on 2fm have collapsed with a 45% drop since jc's jukebox got dropped. Larry Gogan on sunday has only 73k listeners.

According to the Ireland's Biggest Jukebox fan page on Facebook JC will no longer be presenting the Jukebox on RTE Gold. Aidan Leonard is apparently taking over the show from today.

I've just had a look at the RTE Radio player and it looks like Aidan Leonard's picture is beside Irelands biggest Jukebox. It looks like your ears did not deceive you back in April.
Best of luck to Aidan but it's a very sad day for radio listeners.

Apparently he's no longer working for RTE at all.

    Is he 65 ?

    I'd say he's "time served".
Out of curiosity where did you get that statistic about the weekend listenership drop? That type of a collapse on a RTE station has to be a new record of some kind.

According to some posters on the Facebook fan page he's filling in for Mike Moloney on Radio Nova next Sunday.

John has just confirmed it on Facebook. ☺

    John hasn't left yet...I hope!!
Will Leahy has posted these comments on his own facebook page, lets hope John returns to RTE. It would be just the end of an era without him, even if his current shows are recorded:
    Will says...

"Another great day ahead on RTE Gold -
John Clarke is off for a few weeks and Aidan Leonard fills in on Ireland's Biggest Jukebox at 11 then I'm in for "Living in the 80's" at 1 pm"

"JC has reached grand ol retirement age. He is taking the summer off and doing some fill ins on Radio Nova but we expect him back at his post in late August hopefully. Sunday's aren't the same without him"

Larry has always been pretty poor at voicetracking, you can tell a mile off when he is voicetracked. Colm was pretty good at it i thought.
