€800 is a little pricey, from my own experience I would rather put in a second hand engine than do a head gasket. Did your car overheat , what were the symptoms leading up to you been towed

Would that be expensive ?? It ran out of water but no smoke came from the bonnet but the coolant light came on and there was a weird noise and a puff of white smoke that came from the exhaust

Probably in the region of €300 to €350 for the engine and around €300 or €400 depending on the hourly rate the mechanic charges. Shop around for the engine, it's worth ringing a lot of salvage yards because prices can vary

Best of luck getting an engine for an 07 corsa for 350, there making double that

Over heated engine where coolant was lost can cause all sorts of melting down problems all over the engine . The head gasket is probably only one problem of many once you strip the engine down .
Me I probably would not fix that type of engine and would go for scraper engine or alternatively the reconditioned engine with guarantee if the price was right .

Marginal with 2007 small car the scraper engine might not be that good .
great cars the Opel Corsa sad to lose it for this .

Whats the kilometers of the car and whats its value before it went bang

€700 for a 07 corsa engine. Seems a bit steep to me especially if it's a petrol engine.

Secondhand Corsa petrol engines in very high demand and therefore very expensive and hard to get. No way you would get one for 350 for a 07 car. Would be 800 to 1000 euro, if you can manage to locate one at all.

Mate is a breaker who got in an 07 Corsa recently. Engine was sold for 1000 euro before the car arrived in the yard, and the buyer was delighted to get it.

@OP, doing the head gasket on one of these is not always a success, so the comments from your mechanic makes sense.

There must be quite a high demand for these engines so, I thought they gave little trouble besides some with a rattle from the timing chain and coil pack problems.

I find that a bit excessive , changing an engine rather than doing a head gasket.
We have had a couple of head gaskets go over the years but were always detected early, running slightly warm, losing a drop of coolant, slight blow from the oil filler point. Never had a problem after.

I will say if the car was driven on with no water in it, you dont know what else is wrong with the car and a replacement engine might be the better route to go.
People do need to learn what warning lights mean on cars and to take heed of them. A lack of basic maintenance and common sense cost dearly
