what hotels to stay in Barcelona?

hey guys, im really stuck on where would be a nice hotel to stay while in barcelona? me and the hubbie going for 10 days. he wants a city break and i want to be able to get to teh beach for a day or two. looking for somewhere that is nice but not too expensive. thanks
