    Hi

Probably a stupid question but I see people referring to different 'skins' on here, 'old skins' etc... but could someone tell me, what a skin is?

    Thanks :)

It's basically just the look and design of the website. It used look quite different to the way it looks now, it was a much more "bluey" colour to it than all the white space, and there was no header at the top, just the boards logo. Then the site underwent a whole new design, much like the way it's being rolled out now.

I think there's a web archive site if you google, it'll show you what the old boards site used to look like.

(there was a 'beta' skin, but that seems to have got shafted fairly quickly, it was the foreskin to the current skin)

Themes are another thing entirely, like the dark theme/light theme and so on.

A skin is essentially what you are looking at right now. It's how the site looks, but not so much how it works. I'm sure someone that give a much more technical answer, but that's my understanding. Boards has gone through numerous incarnations of how it looks and for a long time people were given the ability to change the skin, by choosing from a select number of them.

Most people would remember the site looking like the below but there have been many changes through the years:

Thanks :) That's pretty much what I expected I think, but think I got confused by why / how people talk of having different / old skins .
