After reading a few of the amazing stats^/infographics in de paper, this surely has to be one for McCoy's mantelpiece. Available at up to x8 (Bwin or Lads). Averaging generally x5.5 across the boards. Though '365 have shortened to x4 (fav) to win.

Market open 'till Sun 13 Dec, so still a fair bit away. AP likely to bow out aboard Box Office (16:25) Sandown, Saturday.

^ E.g. Over the 'course' of his career has fallen the equivalent distance of twice the height of the world's tallest building (you know, the pointy one over in the desert). I fell off a Kawasaki once getting the knee down on an uphill 20mph corner, sold it shortly afterwards.

Thought McIlroy was a shoe-in last year and we all know what happened to that thanks to Lewis Hamilton.
McCoy could/should win it but it's a long time between April and December and people forget very easily, very quickly.
Looks like he will get a lifetime achievement and that could be it for him instead.

True enough is a long-time away, still better returns than 4% investment account over 8mths. (Bwin offering x800% ROI today). As short as x3.5 (Coral) today, but due somewhat to the hype via BoxOffice etc. On the downside not available generally as an e/w. Will wait 'till it reaches double figures in couple of months as part of a longer-term strategic fourfold win from 5 or more selections Accumulator.

    That's if he wins it.
There's a lot of sport between now and the votes.
As I said, I would guess if he wins a lifetime achievement, he would be big odds then to win the both of them.

BBC Sports Personality of the Year will come to Belfast for the very first time at the Odyssey Arena on Sunday 20 December.

Was never able to get AP as part of an accumulator, well done on the lifetime achievement award however.
A' Murry likely has the award wrapped up x1.4 as the outright winner.

Managed to get top 3 finish on the tail ends of few accumulators earlier with:

Kevin Sinfield @ 1.40 to be in the top 3,
and a bit of for Fury @ x3.75 to get in top 3 also.

The logic here was that is a bit of tension between these two and as such will be backed heavily with supporters from both camps, there will be decent public support for Tyson from the public votes as every town has a boxing club that will recognise his achievements. Whereas gymnastics, track and field etc is more scarce.

Managed also to get Kevin Sinfield @ 26.00 (e/w) on 1st Dec also just before the price went short.

Updates and voting here (uk only): http://www.bbc.com/sport/sports-personality/35137870

Can't complain, good result as expected, would have been nice to see Tyson ruffle a few feathers all the same. That KSx26(ew) was a shocker, can't remember what set the market short around 1st Dec, but selection went blue right across oddschecker.

Wouldn't have thought many would have predicted the Tricast.
Thought JEH would have been 2nd at worst.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭4068ac1elhodqr

Yep JEH was 2nd I think, but KS was top three which at x1.4 was reasonable return along with AM x1.4

Being the Beeb perhaps they wouldn't have been too keen to have Fury do well, maybe 'technical issues' with some voting data perhaps?

Does anyone know who receives how many votes?

After the Davis Cup, Andy Murray was a sho-in.

Rory Mci, as long as he doesn't play any football could do well in the SPOTY16

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭4068ac1elhodqr

    stats:

Murray, 28, won 361,446 of the 1,009,498 votes cast (35%),
    with Sinfield getting 278,353 (28%)
    and Ennis-Hill 78,898 (8%)

Thought EH was 2nd, but only actually got 8%, so can assume the rest all got 7% or less each, surely Tyson has more fans than that, perhaps some of his votes were 'misplaced', who knows...

Thank you, gives food for thought... the top three getting 71% of the vote and the remaining nine contestants with the balance of 29%

As you rightly say, the highest of the nine must have been under the 8%, an extreme difference.

Cycking is still under the drugs cloud wih accusations against Frome being given loads of publicity.

Plis, who appears in topical adverts, EH is in the Santander which keeps her in the public eye. You have to wonder how much affects the promo advert for the contestants has on the viewer.

The one missing, Elise Christie, the short circuit speed skater, failed miserably at the winter olmypics but came thro to win Gold and Silver at the more recent world championships. The courage, blah blah to overcome, leaving away from home.... LOL good sob story.. but missing from the candidates.

"Minority" Sports don't have the fan base and never seem to do that well.
Surprised Sinfield got that close to winning it, most non RL fans wouldn't have known him and amazed how low a vote JEH got.
Olympics and Euro 2016 are the big events for next year.

Indeed as oki mentioned this even has a high level of variance and a year is along time.
Think I'll leave any interest on this right up until Oct/Nov/Dec '16.

Predict a good year ahead for A'Murray again, think he will take the Aus open (x9) in Jan, and maybe Wimbledon also if he sticks to the gluten free diet. Surely he couldn't hatrick the award it in such a short time frame?

I never heard of Sinfield still couldn't pick him out, just noticed a surge right across OC, and there is always one or two book's traders a good few hours slow to react, in this case WH left the gate open with x26 ew.

Novelty bet of the month currently is Mrs Brown's Boys x1.8 typically, worth considering tagging onto an accum. I'd rather have my eyebrows plucked that watch that drab show Eastbenders x5.5. Some bookies have put mrs queen's odds at x26, rightly so.

Justin Bieber was great value for No.1 last week (x5) as X-factor whimpered out, now the chap is x1.33.

Hold that, NHS Choir is now x1.55 (coral) for the best selling singsong on the big day (according to trending).

Poor Louisa Johnson (X-Factor) will shift as much records as an DJ's tattered vinyl blue box of 'dog-eared Scooter 12" singles' at yer average car boot sale during Storm Eva up on the remote wind swept NW coast this week.

Book now more or less closed on the NHS Choir now only x1.1 from x1.55 within 5hrs.
Someone at PPower has left the gates open at x1.25 though.

Hopefully they'll get back tending to the ill and infirm after all the tour buses & limos, norovirus is doing the rounds again.

How low can Mrs. Brown get? at x1.8 or so, have the VCR Recorder on standby.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,617 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

Would have thought Mrs B would be shorter?
Nothing around looks like getting close to it and it has a massive following in UK and on at the ideal time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭4068ac1elhodqr

Indeed so, reduced to x1.55 average now, BP 1.67 still decent about the same as last year.
E'End and D'Abby both around x5. Dancing show special might possibly sneak into contention briefly x10.

If they brought i) some decent stage lights ii) skimpy dance off corsets into the aul' Vic sure they'd win.

Someone told me once that Eastenders gets wired out to Calias and other post-colonial outposts to stem the flow of migration.

I thought Xmas No 1 was decided last Sunday, as in the song that is No 1 on Xmas day???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭4068ac1elhodqr

The UK Music Chart moved to Fridays recently,
so the 2015 Christmas number one will be revealed on Christmas Day this time.

Perhaps that DJFox chap cleared a few stores of yoofs shopping when he popped in for a look around,
so maybe something like that caused delays on adding up the sums.
