Is there any way of finding out what one might get speed-wise from Vodafone Simply Broadband 24Mb in a particular area. Is there any site with map or would they be able to give some indication if you phoned them? (Furbogh Galway)

If u look up eircom website, it gives you expected speed profile for your line. Obviously if it says 15Mb, you probably get 13

Silly me, I thought it was mobile Broadband but it is actually fixed line broadband. I rang them and they will do a speed test for the area and let me know what I should expect to get realistically.

Unfortunately fibre is not available in the area.

Isn't Simply Broadband (broadband only, no phone) only available on fibre connections? Not standard DSL broadband?

I don't know to be honest but they told me when I rang them that I could get up to 24Mb Max so that's hardly fibre? My requirements aside from internet access and email will be the need to be able to Skype video call multiple users and my understanding is that for up to 7 people + you would need around 8Mbps / 512kbps (down/up). That would be the most demanding use I would need.

Would you know if those customers are on unbundled lines on BT equipment? If memory serves me, BT were offering BB only to their unbundled customers on exchanges where they had their own gear installed. Vodafone would have taken over these customers and products when BT pulled out of consumer BB in 2009.

As far a I remember, eircom never offered BB only on bitstream wholesale.

They've offered solo ADSL for a while, you just have to ask nicely on the phone. With them you get a CRN not a real circuit number and calls are impossible.
