Cold water Kitchen tap dripping

Folks,

I am hoping someone can help with this query. When I turn off the cold water kitchen tap it drips for about 20-25 seconds each time. It only started the last 24 hours. I was wondering what could be causing this and will it go away by itself or how can I stop this from happening?

Tap washer maybe worn or some dirt got on it. Give it a week or two and see if it clears up, if not fit a new washer.

Don't squeeze the tap too tight when turning off it wrecks washers.

Just an update to this. When it turn the tap to let the water flow their is a short time delay of about 2 seconds when previously when I turned it the water would flow straight away. Its like the water stutters for a couple of seconds before flowing.

That could just be a bit of air, your worrying tooo much, as they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Folks. The problem with water dripping from the tap remains so I went out and brought a new tap washer. The problem is that I can't locate where I turn off the water supply. There id a bronze tap underneath the kitchen sink in the press at the back but I can't turn it clockwise because the wood is in the way. Would this tap be what's needed to be turned to stop the water supply or is there a level or something similar in the hot press area? Sorry for the dummy question

Yes,that is the valve.Other than that you might have a water meter valve outside your house near the road that will also turn off your water

thanks agusta so you mean the valve is the bronze tap under the sink. If so I will have to drill a hole

Yes,but you could take a look at where the water is coming into the house from the road and see if you have a water meter valve out there.It could save you the bother of having to drill a hole

Just an update on this. I replaced the tap washer and its still dripping. Could the whole tap need replacing? Will I now have to call in a plumber. It drips for about 20 seconds and then stops

What's the problem with it dripping for 20 seconds? As has already been said if it isn't broke leave it alone

Folks, Just an update to this. I put a new washer in and it still drips and then stops after about 30 seconds. I presume the next thing I should try is to get a replacement brass faucet? I would rather try and fix this myself then the expense of a plumber which would be a minimum €50.

Is the seating for the washer damaged? You may be able to repair it with a reamer.

If the water stops after 30 seconds the it could be almost siphoning from the spout. Is the spout clear.
Reaming isn't a great success on the cold mains taps. But no harm to try and change the spindle too
