Anyone ever have that happen where you go to withdraw money but the atm gives a message saying please try again later, only to find out that money was taken from account?

Had this happen today.. no small amount either. When rang my bank they said it would take a week to sort. When asked if they could help in the meantime, all they said was.. "can you get someone you know with an account with us to give you some money".. absolute cheek of them!

It didn't say 'insufficient funds' by any chance as well.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

The only thing you can do in that situation is wait for them to sort it out. It happens from time to time. It's a software problem, but sometimes can happen just the once on the 1 atm, not all day. You have to wait for them to double and triple check the atm logs which will confirm what the atm said and also that no money was actually dispensed. Then confirm it when they check your account, cross reference the times and place it took place, then fix your account. Apparently it takes a week to do that but all you can do is wait. Don't expect compensation though :P

The cnuts took two mortgage payments in one week from my account last year in "an administration error".
Fcuked me up for a few weeks.

Took them ages to sort it out too.

Happened to me last year. Went to take 600 out and it didn't give me a single note. Took me a month to get my money back.

Stuck my card in there 2 weeks ago..dit dat ditty doo and it goes "Please take your cash"..except no cash came out..so after a bit of a flap, I went through the process again and this time the money emerged..and I rang the Missus to make sure one of us queried wether the account had been debited twice..except we both then forgot about it till I started reading this..and now I'm wondering wether the account was debited twice...shyte..

The cnuts took two mortgage payments in one week from my account last year".

Send them a letter accompanied by an invoice outlining your (substantial) schedule of charges.

Should payment not be forthcoming within 21 days smash your way into your local bank accompanied by a gang of heavies. Throw everyone out and declare that you are "repossessing" the place :-)

If you steal money from a bank its theft....if they steal your money its
    "an administration error".

Hmmm, sounds odd, you better give me your account number and pin code so I can check it out for you.

As long as customers think there is nothing they can do, and happily wait, Bank Of Ireland (and others like them) will happy sit back and wait weeks to sort it out.

Well the atm was ulster bank but I'm with ptsb.

I understand these things happen and the process to correct it but it was the guy telling me to get someone to send money electronically that bugged me.. for one, you never know someone's circumstance, and two.. on a Friday evening, how many people are sitting at a computer waiting to send money to someone!

I'm sure all these BOI glitches over the past 24 months have nothing to do with the fact that their IT department is mostly located offshore. Pure co-incidence. :)

Just tell them you forgot to take the cash with you and they will give you the cash. Thousands of people do that every year.

The talk to AIB and BOI forums would be dead if people didn't do that
