03 1.4 vw lupo yay or nay.

    Vw lupo 2003 1.4 petrol.
    A friend of mine is looking for a small car and this fits the bill.
    Small, able to get into places that other cars can only dream about. And a good resale value if needed.

    However it's the 1.4 engine. Is it really that bad as it's made out to be?
    So motors, thoughts on the vw lupo engine?

    First of all resale value on a 12 year old car should have not influence your buying decision. For the most part, cars at this age are in bangeronmics territory where they have depreciated so much already that further depreciation has slowed down to a point where it becomes less relevant.

    My sister had a 1.0 litre Lupo years ago. It was nippy enough easy to park because of it's size and very light on juice but it was far from trouble free. Typical VW weak points including various sensors such as the throttle body and MAF failing needed replacing. Sunroof electric motor gave up too and water leaking into the cabin via the door drains. I'd say even though the 1.4 engine in the Golf is slow it would be lively enough in a car the size and weight of the Lupo. The GTi would be a little cracker too.

    Have a look at the Seat Arosa too, it's basically the same car and gives you more choice.
