What did 'New Coke' taste like?

On this day coke released their 'new coke' formula which turned out to be a marketing failure.

Did anyone here taste it? Was it nicer than normal coke? Were you outraged at the time?

Couldnt say. My body is a temple and I would never sully it with an unholy trinity of sugar, caffeine and capitalism. Fair trade coconut milk for me.

Was it anything like Pepsi? Apparently the decision to change the recipe came about because Pepsi were beating them in sales back in the 80s.

It had a fair bit of cocaine in it.

Coke in America tastes noticeably different to here anyhow.

The new green coke is quite pleasant. Doesn't make your teeth feel violated immediately and not as gassy as the diet shi'ite they sell.

They still sell Cherry Coke here

    It was vile.

I still miss the old medicinal taste of real coke :(

The "classic" coke they brought back just didn't taste the same. And now I can drink pepsi 'cept it's too sweet or virgin cola or some generic colas (but not the super cheap ones ). Before it was coke or nothing

Now coke is just another cola - and the cheaper diet colas work better at this

I remember it being Shiite tasting, overly sweet and artificial.

This isn't something I know much about but you just sparked something in relation to 80s films.... Pepsi seems a lot more evident in American films at the time in terms of signage etc.

I heard the comedian Bill Burr say it's cause they use real sugar here. It's that high fructose corn syrup stuff in the US. Now he said it was about the difference between the taste of coke in Mexico vs the US. Apparently he thought the Mexican version was far better tasting. But I presume it'd be the same difference between here and the US.

Which did you prefer? US or Irish?

    "Musty".

It tasted musty. I think regular coke still does. Diet Cokes nicer, in moderation. If you throw moderation out the window, it gets to be deleterious to your health. Moderation is bloomin dull, but it seems to be the way to go about everything. Boring.

I hate the taste but I still drink it. Especially from an A&W fountain. The sugar content must be so high that it's 'more-ish'

You can get it in a few places in Maynooth.

Lidl is great for Coke. Their own brand cola is 59cent and is 90% the taste of regular coke.

I have to say though the Green Coke recently released is really nice. Kinda minty after taste to it too.

I really like the shade of green on those Coke Life cans. What's the name for it? Racing green?

That's my sole opinion on the matter.
