I went for a consultation in Laservision yesterday and am scheduled for Lasik in 2 weeks. I'm -8 so can hardly imagine being contact lense free for the first time in 20 years (I've had them since I was 8). But now the nerves have really and truly set in, especially after talking to my parents who are starting to put doubts in my mind. I have researched Laservision and John Fenton (on boards and google) and couldnt find any bad reviews. That being said, I couldn't find all that much reviews either. I'm also starting to woder why the price is only 2000 euro. So I suppose what I'm really looking for is somebody to tell me their first hand experiences with Laservision and John Fenton, good and bad. I'm kind of in 2 mind whether to go through with it or not now, even though I'm dying to be lense and glasses free!

Don't know about him, but I do know that some places charge extortionate prices.

€2,000 is probably about right for lasik IMO.

I was one of the first to get it done in the UK back in 1996. I went from -8.5 & -7.5 to -.25 & -.50. (Not perfect, but I was getting it free! )

It's not rocket science to operate the lasers, and if its irish based, I wouldn't have any worry at all.

I'm now -2 & -2.5 so may get it done again.

edit - plenty of reviews on him. Magic mum, yelp etc. All good. He's been around for 9 years here and many years before in UK. I'd be 100% confident. The change in life from going from -8 to near perfect is utterly amazing and you see it literally minutes after the procedure.

remember you can claim tax back on the cost too!

Thanks for your help and reassurance. I was all set for it, just listening to loads of people saying that the only way to go is to go to the Wellington or Mater Private is really freaking me out even though I know people who have gotten it done in chains who are happy with theirs. If my prescription wasn't so high I don't think I'd be worried.

My aunt was also one of the first people to get it done in Ireland and she was minus 14 and 15. Think she is still ok!
