Amazon have gone mental - Forcing Prime membership for items

I'm not sure what Amazon are thinking but I have no idea how they think it's going to work.

I'm not sure when this has started with Amazon have blocked people from buying certain items unless you pay them £79/Year for a prime membership.

    Example:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pampers-Baby-Size-Junior-Monthly/dp/B00AR9HX3G/ref=pd_bia_yo_t_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=0YC942TKHQCDNYQ96GQ0

Pampers Nappies. A normal everyday item... you not have to be a member to buy it.

Judging by the comments on this page and loads of other pages people are not happy and won't be paying it.

I would rather pay another company more then let Amazon force me into joining prime... I spend 1000's per year on Amazon mainly around Christmas... I will not be spending a penny with them anymore until they remove this stupid block.

I fail to see what the issue is, you do the maths and work out will you be better off joining Prime or not. If you do not join, you do not buy the goods that are exclusive to Prime members

Anyone could buy the a few months ago..

Where does it stop ... Soon everything will be prime only.

Weren't they going to target these prime-only goods at regular rebuy products? Trying to have people locked into a regular purchase seems like a good idea to me and for some people it'll be handier for them too, if it's not buy the product elsewhere on Amazon or off it...

I love Amazon for the reviews and the selection but most items can be picked up in Dublin for the same price, no way am I paying for prime membership! Hopefully this doesn't spread to more products.

Wouldn't mind this at all if Prime membership gave Irish members free postage on everything, or even lowered the limit to £10.

Or gave us the same acess as us and uk to Amazon's streaming service.

And It won't improve having orders waiting for dispatch for over a week!

You can pay for it but there are no real benefits for Irish residents as the delivery and other benefits only apply in the UK.

Agree with OP, have also bought nappies on Amazon previously but can't now, used work out at about 50-60% of supermarket price. It's just not worth it in Ireland to pay an extra £80 per year with little or no benefits. There does seem to be a significant backlash on that page so hopefully they will reverse their decision.

I used the free Prime trail with PM in Belfast and it was great. I'd consider paying for it. I was getting items within 24hrs of ordering. Ordered headphones on a Saturday afternoon and I was using them on Monday evening. Can't argue with that service imo.

I have prime. Not only does it give me nappies for the kids. It also gives me next day delivery to PM and prime movies on my firestick.

Having dumped sky, o now have a range of TV series and movies on tap.
Not forgetting cloud storage for free.

A good deal in my opinion

I wouldn't mind paying for prime if

1: They offered next day delivery to Ireland
2: There Prime movie / tv show streaming service worked in ireland.

The 2 main things offered in the Prime package doesn't apply to Irish people... so paying 79/year just to be allowed buy something is pointless.

If you are in the UK I can see why it's a good thing.. but for Irish customers there prime service is pointless.

But if he needs the item asap its still excellent value!

If you pay for one day delivery in the uk its 4.99 sterling, if you pay for two day delivery to Ireland its around 17.99 sterling. So he can get two day delivery via prime to Ireland for 3.95 euro ontop of the Prime price.

While not for everyone, if you need items fast and you order a certain amount throughout the year then that 79 sterling charge for prime is good value.

If you use it for streaming media as well then its even better

Unless you pay for a VPN you can't use there streaming service in Ireland
