Depends on the dept at your local SW office, its not centralised. One day you'll go to the Post office, there'll be no payment there and then you'l get paid into the bank, hopefully the same week. I think it comes in on a Wednesday.

thanks, ive no idea how they work it; so according to you (wmpdd3) they still pay you at the start of the course through the post office. i thought they might backpay you in arrears into bank account, while you're getting transfered over to BTEA?

When I was on it, I simply had to collect in the Post Office until one week it wasn't there and then on the Thursday it was in my bank. When I was in my final year, I was living in a different county to the college I attended and was commuting - Explained to them that it would be physically impossible for me to collect a payment in the PO and attend college as there is only one bus daily at 8am, and they paid me into the bank the following few weeks and let the bank payment switch to BTEA. They're usually very good and don't leave you stuck, at least with my experience with it over four years, including a repeat year!

If its within the same area of study it will be considered a continuation going from Level 5 to Level 6 and you will not be considered a new applicant but you will still have to apply.

It is, and they would be strict enough. You would need to provide proof to your college in the form of doctor/hospital notes that you had sufficient reason to take off. A lot of courses include attendance in their Continuous Assessment score (which is required to pass) so bad attendance could result in a fail irrespective of the effect on BTEA.

You can apply for both but you will only receive one. You can apply for BTEA now. You can download the form from welfare.ie http://www.welfare.ie/en/pdf/bte1.pdf
