Alternatives to Brylcreem?

Anybody know of any better alternatives to brylcreem? I've been using it for years but now I just find it 'sweats' out a bit too easily, doesn't hold for very long and makes my hair very greasy, even after one wash. Thinking of trying Dax.

OP, I've moved your thread as I think you'll get better responses here. Potential posters please not the change in charters.

Wella Shockwaves. They do little tubs of the stuff or tubes of it. The second strongest strength is in a blue package and is excellent. They also do a product called Styling Steel that I've been using lately. You literally only need a tiny dab of it to control your hair effectively. They also do not make your hair greasy. They also wash out very easily.

Dax Wax is akin to dumping the used contents of a chipper's chip pans over your head, to be honest. Avoid it.

Plus one with what JaseBelleVie said about Dax. I used it for a few months but I stopped thankfully before it made me bald. Its great for hold but trying to wash the stuff out is a nightmare as its so thick and greasy, also I was constantly pulling a few strands of your hair everytime I washed it out.

I'm using Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Styling Gel, it holds really well without using a lot of gel and it washes out easily without leaving much residue. Also smells great while not being overpowering.

My boyfriend an other male friends like the American Crew products - usually available from good barbers. They are about Eur 15 or so but would last for ages.

You really need to get something that would not be on sale in Boots for example. They are generally mass market stuff that is not always specific to what you may want. ]

If you go to a good barber/hair dresser they will have a good product, it all depends on your hair lenght/style and what you want to go for. I have short hair and use American Crew Fibre or L'Oreal Clay 5, easy to wash out and good hold.

    +1 on this.

OP the American Crew Grooming Cream, or Fiber is great.

Both are high hold, but touchable without residue.

I wore loads of different stuff for years, and steered clear of this as I thought the price was silly.

    It's not.

15 euro tub will last the guts of a year if you only use it every couple of days.

Also believe Layrite is supposed to be great.

Thanks everyone! I'll steer away from Dax, I've heard too many bad things about it. Will search Amazon for American Crew and L'Oreal Clay 5 :)

There are some great brands for men's hair products that aren't available in your usually shops such as Boots etc with the rest of the mass produced stuff.

It depends on the look you are trying to achieve but nearly all products from the following brands I've heard great things about or used myself. American Crew especially the fibre one and the grooming cream, By Vilain, Mr Pompadour, Hanz de Fuko and Baxter of California.
