    Hi guys,

The father has a very small farm in the west of Ireland. He rang asking me about the new Glas scheme and asked me was it worth his while being involved.

He wasn't involved in reps previously. I know very little about glas, but I'd help him with the setup and paperwork if it was worth his while. He's semi retired And has a small suckler herd.

    Any suggestions or pointers?

    Thanks in advance!

He needs to go to an advisor. Cannot submit a plan without then anyway. Any watercourse on the farm?

There's a stream running through several fields alright. Is that important?

Total amount of land is only about 10ha.

All of it is just pasture, with one large field used for hay. He doesn't use a huge amount of fertiliser anyway, so I'd imagine he wouldn't have to change much if he joined glas?

Ya, priority is given to protecting watercourses. Should be good for ye. Will have to fence or off.

    Cheers for the replies lads.

There seems to be a lot of annual fees? With income of about 3k per year (based on around 10ha pasture), is it still worthwhile do ye think?

I am still laughing at the title of the thread, very fitting.

I'd agree with going to an adviser, as said you need one anyway. In particular find out the terms and conditions of the options you might chose to draw down money and make sure you can meet them.

Don't work as a farmer (bar helping at weekends) so wouldn't have any visibility on new schemes/regulations. Just want to ensure the father doesn't miss out on an opportunity, and boards like this are a great information exchange.

Oh don't worry, that comment wasn't at all directed at you or your father. Good luck with the application :)

    More likely directed at planners:confused:
