    Hi there.
I had an 07 mondeo 1.8 diesel a few years ago.
Beautifal car but the one I bought was a money pit. All sorts of problems that I couldnt afford to keep bringing to be fixed so I had to get rid at a big loss.
Since then Ive had a 04 Avensis 1.6 and It has been a great car for me.
I am now thinking of a change and just love the Mondeo but will not get a diesel again.
    Too much pain before.
My question is,is anyone happy enough with their 1.6 Mondeo'Reading on here people say they would be underpowered but not many seem to have actuallt driven one.
I know it will be no rocket but how would it compare to the avensis 1.6 whichI am happy enough with.
See some nice 2008 cars with about 90000 on the clock for about 5 grand. Worth a punt

We had one. It's properly slow, most noticeable when overtaking. It also drinks petrol. Expect 35-37mpg and no more.

Overall, glad to see the back of it.

Mondeo is very underpowered i personally wouldnt buy one i dont like driving them at all.
If you are doing much motorway driving it would be hard enough on fuel with only a five speed gearbox.

The avensis would be a lot lighter than a mondeo so would be more economical and would and have better pickup.

The father had the 2 litre petrol and even that was lacking in a car like a Mondeo. The diesels suit them better but wind it up and it was grand. You'd probably buy one a bit cheaper due to the extra tax but they can crack 40mpg on a cruise and have more power in reserve than the 1.6. It's a very heavy car for such a small engine IMO.

It seems hard to find anyone with anything good to say about the car. I will test drive a couple and see for myself. I do about 60 to 70 miles a day on motorways. Might not be the best choice for that but the diesel wont be happening
    Thanks for the replys

To be honest the diesel is a nicer car in those situations. The best performance is available at cruising revs and if it had a dpf it's allowed operate properly. In a car in that class it suits them better than a N/A petrol.

The downside is you'll pay more and have a higher repair risk.

Your Mondeo was obviously a Monday morning car.

My 09 1.8 diesel just hit 300km and, outside normal maintainence the only thing its needed is a new exhaust.

    Averaging 5.4 l/100km.

I loved driving the car , Its why I am thinking of getting another one.
It was fine for 6 months or so , then the flywheel clutch needed to be done, shortly after the calipers were sticking which done the discs.
Mechanic said someone had done a shoddy repair previously.
Then suddenly about once a week the car just woulnt start, leave it a few hours she starts up.
Then same thing again. Left it with my mechanic for a few days.Starts up for him every time. Get it home, next morning up for work. Doesnt start.
    Had enough.
Only thing is that now they are so cheap to buy its less of a risk

Mondeo 2.0 TDCi is alot nicer and more refined than the 1.8 TDCi.
