    Just took delivery of it.
    1 GB RAM.
Any other else have a Raspberry Pi architecture based machine, like the Banana Pi (and not made as the Raspberry Pi itself).
I'll add more to this thread about how I get on etc.

Orange Pi has the blue motherboard, the Raspberry Pi B+ has the green motherboard
While the Raspberry Pi B+ has USB 2.0 ports, the Orange Pi has only USB 1 Ports (white):mad:
The Redeeming feature of the Orange Pi, is that it has Build In Wi Fi, no need for a dongle as in the Raspberry Pi.

Think the Orange Pi has USB 2.0

    @Captain Boycott
At the moment, my intention is to put Lubuntu on it as offered on the Orangpi.org website.

    Just saying ;)

Successfully wrote Lubuntu image to mini sd card.

Seriously, there is a problem with either the power supply or the orange pi PLUS itself - to clarify I have a Orange Pi Plus.

The Power Supply for this particular Pi does not use a smartphone charger.
And the supplied power supply that I got may not be sufficient.

It's looking like the end of the brief beautiful friendship folks.

So, the thing did work for me, but I don't know WHY.
A red led came on in the middle of the 'pi when it did work.

The online documentation is very poor.

but, as a boardsie made of sterner stuff would say, I'll chalk it up to experience I suppose.:rolleyes:

I did try holding down the power switch between the power socket and the OTG itself for " ~5 seconds" as documented online, to power on/ off - no joy.
Thanks again to degsie for supplying diagram.

Working now. But still not sure how to power on and off.

And the thing froze on me. .
I'll play with it tomorrow night again.

There is a minimum PSU requirement specified as 5V 2A IIRC.

Might be prudent to have a more powerful PSU than the minimum ;)

You appear to have the bare board sitting on carpet ..... which is susceptible to static electricity!

I'll have it dangle in mid air rather than on carpet. It can hang from the HDMI cable.

And now the Orange Pi wiki won't load here's the link

Better for a 'pi fan to stick to the one true Raspberry Pi. Now that I own 2 Raspberry Pi 2 Model B's, if I feel flush, I might just invest in the new Raspberry Pi A+. I'm sure I'll get more cycles out of it than my bitter Orange fruit. The same goes in my book for the Banana Pi as for the Orange Pi too, here.

I was tempted by the Orange Pi, but there was QC (quality control) issues with the manufacturing, in one or two of the online reviews.

Worth pointing out, mentioning or at least promoting the Orange Pi on the Pi forums will get you a polite reprimand.

There seems to be legal issues ongoing, regarding hardware/software IP.

Thanks Amalgam for info about Polite Reprimand, I'm on Raspberry Pi forums as well but don't frequent them that much tbh.

I think its better to stick with the true Raspberry Pi.

There will be a lot of imitators that will come and go, but the support and software will never be as good as the Raspberry Pi community that is online.

Bit of a positive "review" of Raspberry Pi A+ but thought I'd post it her anyway http://opensource.com/education/14/12/open-hardware-raspberry-pi-A-plus

    Update
Yesterday 18th May a package was delivered to me, unexpectedly, of a new Orange Pi Plus, with all the accessories that came with the original kit. I guess this is a 'replacement'. This unit powers on when it's connected to the mains this time. I am testing it out at the moment and will post more in 24 hours here.

A stripped down version of the Orange Pi, the Orange Pi Mini 2 ((http://www.orangepi.org/orangepimini2/), without wifi, is now available for $18 US, including postage, from China.

The website Hackaday, had a small feature on it recently.
