Wonder if anyone has walked or ran/jogged this. I was looking to get an idea of length. Also how does running on mud compare with running on concrete paths anything, that I need to be aware of.

I have. I don't think it's too far - can't remember! But the surface is fine, a mix of concrete and dirt trails. there was a big thread on it a few years ago, which I will try to find.

Leixlip Louisa Bridge to Maynooth train station is about 5k. The surface is great, gravel paths most of the way apart from half a mile of grass/trail which in this weather will be dry anyway. Much better for your legs than running on concrete paths!

Cheer for the input guys. I found something from Irish Waterway that said it 7.61 km from Confey to Maynooth along the Canal but was unsure how far, it was if I took off the first stretch.

Really nice place to run, you can also cut into carton for a lap too, in case you get bored of running in a straight line :D

As an FYI - I'm out on the RC in Mullingar, fantastic amenity. In terms of surface, Mary Lynch's Pub (on M4, just the start of the motorway) to Ballinea (far side of Mullingar) is essentially new tarmac for the entire 22km, before and after that, its gravel/old tarmac till Ballincarrigy (another 14km). As flat as a mill pond all along!

If anyone was getting adventurous, you can access the canal directly outside of Mullingar train station - from there its about 65km to Louisa Bridge (one for the bike or a decent run-bike training session!)

Leixlip to Maynooth is great. If you could start at confey, even better. Great surface. Only uneven surface is the area from around the back of Lidl under the flyover for about 1 - 1.5miles. But as a previous poster said, in this weather it should be hard enough mud / grass not to be a problem. Just be careful not to roll your ankle. From pikes bridge up to maynooth is great surface for running again.

Looking to mix it up in the coming weeks.
