Ireland To Adopt New Aircraft Registrations

From the 1st of June we may see a new series of EJ-XXXX registered aircraft along with EI-XXX.

Seems the current EI-XXX series is running out of new options with all these new aircraft being delivered and transferred over.

Although, I believe Ireland had right to the EJ-XXXX series for a good few number of years, it was never put into place until now.

    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/2015/en/si/0107.html
Nationality and Registration Marks of Aircraft Registered in the State

    11. (1) The nationality mark of an aircraft registered in the State shall be the capital letters “EI” and the registration mark of every such aircraft shall be a group of three capital letters

    or

The nationality mark of an aircraft shall be the capital letters “EJ” and the registration mark of every such aircraft shall be a group of four capital letters. The application of the nationality marks “EJ” shall be at the discretion of the Authority and subject to any conditions or criteria it may specify.

    (2) The nationality mark shall precede the registration mark and the registration mark shall be preceded by a hyphen.

    (3) To avoid confusion, the five-letter combination used in the international code of signals, Part II, the three-letter combinations beginning with Q used in the Q code, and distress signals or other similar urgent signals, for example PAN, SOS, XXX are not issued by the Authority. The Authority no longer issues the letter Q in the registration mark.

Would it not be possible to allow for four letters on EI regs, so EI-xxxx ?

Apparently the IAA are trying to set up a similar biz jet registration to the Isle of Mann. These new aircraft will be given the EJ prefix.

hmm, I don't get it.. current registry has 1202 aircraft on it, EI-XXX should give some odd 17k combinations? I understand that some registrations might be retired or reserved, but surely not 16 thousand of them? I hope it will be a choice which prefix to take, I don't think EJ-XXXX would look good on a light aircraft, too much letters, your whole fuselage will be covered by them..

Was thinking the same, it's a shame that they are going through with this.

They must be planning to get every aircraft in Europe onto it.. :pac:

EI-GHT would be my preference, and oddly not registered.

Would seem appropriate for an RV-8, or my dreamed-of private DC-8...

EI-DER would suit a quilt manufacturer's King Air if Aer Lingus hadn't taken it for an A320.

EI-EIO was a PA-34 which became G-IEIO in 2002 & CS-EAB in 2010 so not sure what reg is being heard on radio.

EI-GHT was used on a Bell 206 from about 2006 until 2011 https://flic.kr/p/8Hjj3v it is now in Australia as VH-ILS.

Kenny's right, I searched hard on Google and couldnt find the plane I though it was. I was certain it was a home built micro light. Bit of deeper searching and turns out its reg is EI-EEO!

I think it will be an alternate reg. Perhaps as mentioned above to designate biz jets or other non-commercial aircraft.

Perhaps it will be used for the tons of leased aircraft that never see Ireland but carry the EI regn

I remember landing at Rome one time and seeing loads of Alitalia aircraft EI- , I would lay money not one had ever been to Ireland

I remain amazed how many N regn aircraft remain around for ages , the one recent visitor to Weston N90YA which actually carries an Irish Tricolour
