Just having a look at my mothers laptop for her and its extremely slow I mean its 20 minutes on the welcome screen, turned laptop off re-booted in safe mode same story waiting 20 minutes on the welcome screen (Windows 7).

Obviously something is broke or corrupt.

Wondering if it is worth getting 8.1 on a usb stick and re-installing the OS.

Backup any files needed e.g. pictures/video/documents created by user
Do a complete disk scan including surface test
Run sfc to check system files
Check all the RAM is being recognised
Try the 'startup repair' and 'use previous known good config' options in advanced startup options

MS seem to have removed Win7 ISOs from digitalriver, but a disk image isn't hard to find
or reinstall or look for recovery partition

Took 40 minutes to even get into windows. Clicked open system restore and its taking literally 5 minutes to open. I re-seated ram and all.
