Hey all. Have my eye on a 2006 e90 320d 110k miles, service history, imported in 2012 from uk.

Is there anything i should be looking for? Car drives very well, slight whine on hard acceleration, power fine, dont think its a turbo whine but not too sure.

Cant get mechanic to car but dealer will give me 3 months engine gearbox + 2 weeks to get it checked out at my mechanic and will sort out any problems.

Anything i should look for? Appears well minded, has german style plates on, 06d120xxx, also has m badge added on, but will get these removed. Will be ncted before pickup so some issues if there will be sorted?

My 2 biggest things are the turbo and swirl flaps if still an issue on this?

Dealer also gives carprotect warranty for a year for extra, wonder if they will cover turbo?

    Hi

Had this model bmw 4 years ago , only thing I liked was the power ☺could the flywheel / clutch be faulty ? With mine I had terrible trouble with faulty sensors cost small fortune to repair . Also has it got run flat tyres ? No spear wheel in the model .

Get mechanic check done before you buy, not after.

Those after market warranties are nothing more than an insurance policy for the dealer so that he doesn't have to deal with you. They are full of exclusions too so read the terms and conditions very carefully as normally these warranties tend to cover less as the car gets older.

Also 110k miles is very low for a 9 year old diesel car especially one that originally from the UK. I'd be looking into that service history very closely.

Will be doing cartell, that enough you yhink? Notjing inside leads me to think mega miles, all tight and not a lot of wear apart from scratches on gearknob. Heck our 1 series knob is in bits at 100k km

As above, get car checked before you buy.
Make sure you get the codes read as well.
If you want to do it yourself then get a code reader. A creator c310 can be got from Dublindiag.com for €60. Take car for a test drive and check codes after.
It could throw up issues such as traction control, faulty glow plugs, fuel pressure problems etc.

Check the alloys! Known for cracking due to runflat tyres. Can't be seen from outside. Best to check from underneath while car is on a lift. Take a torch with you. Or even better, have the wheels removed and checked! Cracks could be very small but will grow.

Use your torch to check hoses, such as from the intercooler and to the turbo etc for any splits or leaks.

Have them remove the plastic engine cover and look for any oil leaks around the cranckcase/rocker cover.

Check the radio display after the car has warmed up. Those lcd's have a tendency to become blurred when heated up if faulty. You typically only notice this after you buy the car.

For peace of mind I would plan on getting the swirl flaps blanked after purchase.
And just to be sure, would get all filters replaced, oil & brake fluid flushed & changed.

I wouldn't be happy with that whine though, no matter how slight.

Did a cartell check this morning. although no huge discrepancies noted, number of owners:

    uk = 3

    ireland= imported 2013, number of owners = 4 :eek:

Last two owners had it each for a grand total of 3 months each time. i called cartell who confirmed they were all private owners.

no need to go looking for a mechanic.

Three months each ? Run something wrong there .

The mileage still seems a bit suspect to me. Those cars were bought for driving over in the UK. Only 110k miles, while possible, over 9 years is very low.

Frankly OP, the car doesn't sound as if its the cleanest example. If you'd like a good example I'd be getting onto the forums such as BMW driver etc and seeing what they have for sale.

166man, ya i did. need to get rid of current e60 though as well. one i was interested in sold already.

no, there was something that didnt sit quite right with me and the car, thats why i wanted checks etc. although it drove fine, there was something suspect.

but definitely the ownership thing sounded really loud bells.

now, what would people recommend for a diesel around the 6-7k mark (need to sell e60)? preferably saloon, in the vein of a 5 or 3 series?

    something like this?

Wouldn't go for a Passat, just my personal opinion, too many horror stories.

    Something like this

    Saab 93 Vector Sport Diesel

Or hapless about a Jaguar XJ with the 2.7 TDVi engine...?

An Alfa 159 JTDm would be an excellent choice also.

went to see this one yesterday. dealer appears genuine, car also. full service history. would work like clutches and turbos have been done already? it drove very well, and is the mileage appropriate for the age? imported car with full uk history as well as irish.

the dealer has had it for a few years now, sold it once and got it traded back in, and was using it himself. would love people's opinion. due to give an answer today. giving me a fair enough trade in on mine and will do whatever work necessary after buying in his garage.
