If you're not going to tax the car in its current owners name ever again then don't worry.
The on,y way there'd be back tax is if the current registered owner wants to tax the car while under their current ownership.

If you change your mind and want the car to go back on the road then you sell it.The new owner wont be responsible for the back tax and your in the clear. If you still want to use the car for you sell it to somebody your ma or pop and buy it back and the back tax doesnt follow you .I did it for my car stored in garage for 2 years without doing the road tax form .

If the car is too bad to ever use you can sell it to suitable scraper . Some scrapers it seems could fly dump the car someplace so not sure who are suitable scrapers.

My mate kept a old banger in field for last ten years and got few grand for it from a collector needing parts .Better than kick in the rear end and bought a few pints in the local

The only suitable scrappers are the Authorized Treatment Facilities, these are the only people you are allowed to give a scrap vehicle to for disposal. They will issue you with a Certificate of Destruction which is your proof the car has been properly disposed of.
