It might be that the linkages going from the gear lever to the gear box are loose or strained, so gear is not disengaging. Common enough issue with those tractors. Go under the tractor on the LHS while someone up in the cab moves the gear levers so you can see the mechanism moving etc. Maybe bring a screwdriver to help. You should be able to sort the problem. You might need to tighten up the linkages a bit to stop it happening again. If that doesnt work, call your local friendly mechanic.

    Welcome to boards btw

Hi I have a MF390 two wheel drive,it is stuck in low gear and I am told that a spring is the problem, however to rectify it means splitting the gear box, will this cost much and how long would it take.

My old zetor 6211 was a right fecker for it , was a simple fix thankfully, rip the top off and line the pieces up, was annoying

It may not be....I taught the infamous under strength spring (almost never go in 365,375 etc) was for the shuttle in forward/reverse....you should be able to this yourself if you get anyway handy

It's the range change that gives bother. Usually while changing from medium range.

I remember doing one years ago...taking it apart and splitting it twice

And it literally fell back together

Yes there is a little spring that engages the h m l if it's gone the tractor has to be split and the spring replaces spring only costs €5
