Summer knock out style competition for teams of players who have played in divisions 1 and 2.

Unfortunately I have never even seen this cup in person. Maybe some day though. Its good to have dreams.. :D

    Good luck to all,

Hard to see past Gonzaga in this one. It all depends on who is available to play

    Dublin 4-2 Benildus

    Gonzaga 5-1 Rathmines

    Bray 5.5-.5 Celbridge

    Dublin 2.5 - 3.5 Inchicore

    Wow. That makes things interesting!

So we need what - 4½ to top the group?

Though the flip side is Inchicore need 3 to win, and seem more than capable of getting it.

You need to get 5 to go above Dublin. Ending level on points leaves them top as they beat you.

    Makes things interesting alright.

You're right. I was going on the basis of head-to-head against Inchicore for some reason.

Big jump between a 5-1 win and a 4½-1½ win. Especially as we only got 4-2 last year!

If I remember right, the 4-2 was well under our expected score as Inchicore made us work hard on the night. I think they're stronger this year though.

We may be stronger when we face you than we were against Dublin. Against Dublin four out of our six players where from our Heidenfeld B team. We were out rated on every board by almost 500 points.

We were happy last year taking 2 of yourselves (and Bray I think). A win against what was effectively our Heidenfeld B team against an Armstrong team was beyond all expectations.

Does anyone know group 1 results? Runners up spot could be interesting!

Elm Mount 5 Dun Laoghaire 1.
    Phibsboro withdrew.

Runner-up spot is based on best result from a 2nd placed team in match against group winner.

Where did you see this? Is it for all the Cups?

I think the controller decided this for the Branagan because there are only 2 teams in Group 1 after Phibsboro withdrew. I don't know about the other Cups.

Elm Mount have submitted a motion for the LCU AGM that the Cup competitions be knock-out only from next year on.

That may be best. The group stages were brought in to increase the number of games for teams, but it's a real struggle with small numbers to balance having small groups (so not too many games) against avoiding irregular groups with two or three teams.

    Inchicore 3-3 St Benildus

So rather improbably, Inchicore have knocked out two Armstrong teams and top the group.

The magic of the Cup :)

So that's Elm Mount, Inshicore, Gonzaga and I guess Dublin into the semi finals? Does anyone know how the semi final draw is done?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭flipsake

The semi final draw has been made:
Tuesday 9th June Dublin v Gonzaga
Thursday 11th June Inchicore v Elm Mount

    Gonzaga 4.5 Dublin .5 (1 game adj)

Best of luck to them in the final. They were gracious winners.
