Skoda boot won't close

    Wonder if anyone can help.

My 2006 octavia boot won't close. everything looks okay, and I've given everything a liberal spray of WD40 but it won't connect when I close it.

I've tried googling it, but I can't seem to resolve the problem.

    Any ideas?

If not any suggestion as to how I can secure it - I have to leave it in town tomorrow!

Not sure, possibly a central locking issue, if you with the boot open engage lock or dislock and then try to close it does that work?

It will close, just not engage and lock yeah?

Did it happen when you unlocked/opened it today?
Was car parked on public road? The reason I ask is that a similar thing happened to an old car of mine. Turns out it was hit when parked and the lock was slightly moved so once opened it wouldn't engage again. Once I found the misalignment a panel beater could correct it.

I've tried locking unlocking and it doesn't seem to be making any difference.

I noticed it when I was leaving a car park, so I guess it's not unreasonable that it was hit. Couldn't see any obvious damage.
Just annoying because I have no time in morning to sort it before work.

It won't close properly, so it is obvious that boot is unlocked

You can try looking at it close from the inside to see if there is any misalignment? I had a similar issue after a reversed my car into a pole. I was able to fix it by adjusting the bottom of the locking mechanism.

If you kneel down close to the boot latch, can you hear the actuator running when you press the remote locking button

    I don't think so.

I got into the boot this morning and tried to close it from inside with no success. So I rigged a rope to close the boot and I parked this morning in a multistory with my boot backed right up to the wall.

Is it likely to be a big job to get fixed or is it something I could do myself?

It depends on what the issue is.
If car was hit and the lock is out of alignment then you need a panel beater.

Swing by a mechanic after work and get a opinion from someone who can diagnose it a bit quicker than us.

If the actuator is not working, they can be replaced. However, they can also be repaired. If you are handy enough with a spanner, remove it and see will it work with a 12v supply attached directly.

The boot may not be closing because the actuator has failed in the open position

*edit* you should also get into the boot, have somebody close it and see does the locking mechanism line up

    Just a suggestion,
Try pulling the handle on all the doors.

I was walking past a guy one day and his bonnet wouldn't close.
    I stopped to help.
I checked all the door handles and when I pulled on the passenger door handle ghe bonnet was able to close.
    Worth a go any way!

Thanks for everyone's help, had the car to a mechanic and it's the actuator that isn't working properly. On the hunt now for a 'new' one!!

I have a thread on here detailing how to fix an actuator. It's really just a 12v motor. It might be worth a punt to remove it, clean the brushes and pop it back in. Won't cost anything and might save a few bob

Great I'll have a look at that and have a go. Thanks very much

Do you have a link to that thread?

Here you go. Ignore the bit about the diode, just remove the motor and clean the brushes etc.
