Problems with a car dealer

Ok before I explain the story I will admit I left myself wide open for this one I made so many mistakes it is my own fault and now I haven't a leg to stand on but all I can do now is try my best to get something done, I bought car from a used car dealer last Friday seemed like a lovely car for a decent price, I went ahead with the buy trading in a 01 open corsa with no nct and it needed a lot of work done on it for a 05 ford focus with nct, car was priced at €3995 and got it for €3000, first mistake I bought it without getting any mechanic to view it, the car started showing problems four days later, not starting first thing in the morning, then it wouldn't start at all on the fifth, I contacted him straight away and asked him to look at it, he's been bluffing me ever since, on further investigation I find this guy is serious trouble and has caused problems for lots of people, I'm still under warranty for three months, is there anything I can do other keep at him to solve the problem with car?

Why do you consider you have done something wrong, the vehicle must be fit for purpose and of merchantable and safe quality.
Is there something you haven't mentioned? Did you waive any warranty or something for a lower price, not sure how that would work but within 5 days, I'd be looking for the car fixed or a replac Kent and be onto them sharp about it, I'd then be considering legal letters or getting legal advice if you get no answer or or are given short shrift from the dealer.

Also. How do you know your car needed lots of work? Who told you this?

I agree if you know dry little about cars, it would have Ben value for money to ask advice here for ho to get and pay to view on your behalf.

Write down everything as it happens Dates , times you called Dealer , what he said etc. etc. if he has sold dodgy cars with no comeback before then try and get it sorted sooner rather than later as it's your perseverance versus his avoidance skills. Good luck !

Don't waste time with phone calls. Call around. Be polite, but firm. Appear happy in demeanour as if you're confident that he'll sort you out, and you can even appear confused if he tries to get rid of you. Question any reason he gives you to refuse help. Write down answers in front of him if it comes to that, but start with that anyway.
Then depending on how that goes, I'd be looking to sort a means to get the car back to him. You need that car either fixed, or your money back. Ideally your money back, as he won't really fix it properly.

Have you any idea what the issue is, i mean, is it just the battery?

I'd be asking a local independent mechanic to assess the car to see extent of problem, seeing as your investigations show dealer is dodgy .
Is it petrol or diesel ? If petrol it might be only spark plugs or one or two coil packs. focus generally bulletproof in petrol. 3000 on the face of it doesn't seem too bad a deal, assuming you can get it right for a couple of hundred . good luck

Thanks for the reply guys, my car needed new shocks it failed nct because of this, the car has seen it's day so I reckon it would need other bits done but I did inform him of the shocks been the honest guy that I am (or should I say fool), so far the problem with the car is unknown and unresolved, they told me it was a loose wire, it doesn't start on the first turn when the engine is cold, I reckon it might be the fuel pump, I'm getting a mechanic to check it for me tomorrow, and he will go back with what he says, when the car first died I rang the dealer and asked him could he pick it up, he told me to ring my insurance company for breakdown assistance, I refused to do that (even though I knew I had no such cover), they never sent anyone to collect and the car was left sitting in an unsecure location which annoyed me, and then it took them two days to find a cable coming loose, I dunno, I would happily take a full refund and put this all behind me and take a big lesson learned but going by this guy's history and he's attitude I reckon I could be in for a long horrible haul, thanks for your advice I'm taking it all on board

    SIMI membership isn't very important.
