Many of you folks have work related travel? In Heathrow at the moment killing 3 hrs and won't be back home till Saturday 2am. I'd alot of travel up until last summer and had forgotten what a pain in the hole it is!

I used to do a fair bit, do less now. Waiting in airports is a killer alright. Most flights seem to be from Dublin now aswell and the Shannon flights don't suit anymore.

I don't take the real early flights anymore and eat the big meal in the midle of the day with a light meal at night. A good nights sleep every night and you're sorted. I'd sleep anywhere too, never bothers me.

Few 2 day trips to continent and lots and lots of driving, though 80% is short area of max 20 miles but can do few trips a day chasing your tail iykwim.
Would be pretty soul destroying to travel alot, uncle used to spend 2 weeks flying literally all over for few hours then go again reckoned he aged 30 years in space of 10.

Yeah I'd the option of flying from shannon but it was going to add on the best part of a day at either end.

I've always driven alot but not having breakfast and tea at home is a killer. Did the overnights for 7 years ands don't plan in rushing back to them. 2-4 times a year is plenty

Used to do a good bit.
    Two/three week trips.
Used to go to Dallas a fair bit, shocking place, when a city has no better attraction than South Fork to offer it's a real ****ebox of a place. Oh, and rodeo, but rednecks and horses don't make for much entertainment either.

Ok at the start but I found myself turning down more and more as time went on. There was a big kafuffel because I refused to go to Isreal for a two month job and that was the last time I was asked to go anywhere.

Only 25 mins from Luton airport so easy to get red eye flights as goes to most of Europe with heathrow bout 80-90 mins but if hit M25 after 7.30am just turn round go home til 10 :pac:. Tend to live on fruit and snack bars with lots of tea most days rather than a big meal during day just cook in even as usually done at 5.30 before hrself at 6, try get office work done i am as get nothing done at 9am+ just spend day meeting people and looking at 'stuff'. House is 3 mins drive from yard so handy to run back for grub.

Yeah the diet goes to pot when travelling. I think routine is an animal instinct. You know you're getting auld when it annoys you that the porridge isn't done the way you like it!

There was a recent promotional opportunity and the hierarchy were surprised I didn't apply. After networking hard to get back home not a hope I'm going back travelling again. Maybe I'll change my mind when the kids enter their teenage years

when was your last tour Reggie, was it Africa

Travel most weeks, did 10 weeks on the trot after Xmas (Mon-Fri), not as bad now as down to 2-3 days and not every week. Mainly Eastern Europe. Part of the job I'm afraid, hardest thing is being away from the kids (2 under 2).. Agree that routine goes out the window, find it very hard being disciplined with diet when travelling. Try to do direct flights and spend as less time in airports as possible, have it down to fine art now...

1 trip to kosovo. 2 trips to Liberia and 1 trip to Chad. Chad was the last one nearly 5 years ago now. Very little overseas anymore

He has minions to do the driving. Fact. There was a discussion about it on here over a year ago about it. Very proud he was too about his minions.

I'm a direct employee but use my own car. Get paid good milage and didn't fancy the BIK off my salary. No flights from cork to anywhere in Ireland so flying isn't an option

ah freedom, Minions are a luxury that i only have on about 1 in 5 journeys. Don't have one today. The company took on a quite attractive minion a few weeks ago, but i have yet to have the pleasure of her sharing my journey

she'd have to swim through the pools of drool my single work colleges have left behind first.

saying she is attractive doesn't mean i would be droolong over her. i have class...................... and a fiancee and 2 little kids at home.

i get to work from home on Mondays and Fridays so it negates any reservations i have about traveling

I'd to drive to dublin this morning and while I done it for long enough I'm not too keen on spending my life behind a steering wheel. I wouldn't even comprehend travelling abroad now for work.

In my twenties I used to travel a lot with work, London, Birmingham, Brussels, Schipol, Amsterdam, Nijmegan, Berlin and Cologne. Would be away from home for 2 to 3 days a week every second or third week. Always spent my time at airport hotels and in hindsight I regret not taking the time to explore these cities.
After my second son was born I quit travelling. The feeling of guilt far outweighed the financial burden at the time and I was able to spend more time at home with my 2 sons and the farm/horses. One of the better decisions that I made and one that I have never regretted.
However, time moves on and hopefully for the best
So here I am 20 odd years later  I just did a recce of miles driven between last Wednesday afternoon and Sunday afternoon - 1239
