Where do you think the world will be in 10 years time?

Hi all. I was chatting to a friend of mine who thinks that Russia will take over a lot of Europe in the next ten years. I disagreed with him, but that got me thinking. Could Northern Ireland join Ireland? Will there be a new super power? Will terrorism be on the rise?

Of course we cannot be sure of these things but I think that it is always good to dream. What do you think will happen politically, socially or even on boards in the next 10 years.

Not much different to what is now. Think back to 2005. Has technology actually changed THAT much since then? A decade is a short length of time. It scares me to think that we're over halfway through this one already.

Europe in tatters from driving back the Islamic hordes, India & China dominant powers, Brazil emerging on their heals, Russia a collapsed heap of corruption, the US too busy dealing with internal problems and border issues to lead the world stage, still nobody listening to Australia and Africa the same mess it currently is.

Well not a lot changed between 2005 and now. Nor between 1995 and 2005. So I can't see much happening in the next ten years.

But what do I want to happen? An asteroid to come and put an end to everything.

No I was not born in 1995... I distinctly remember dial up Internet and the 'bedur-bedur-bedur-screeeeeeech' sound it made. I also remember mobile phones that were too big to fit in pockets.

Seriously, technology hasn't changed radically since 2005. Phones have gotten smarter, TV's have gotten thinner and games console graphics have improved. That's about it.

The world will be approximately 87658.1 (the number of hours in ten years) x ~70,000km/hr (the speed at which the sun is moving) so about 6136067000 km closer to the Vega star of the constellation Lyra.

However.. since vega and lyra are other stars within our own galaxy and both orbit the centre of the milky way we will be also spinning around the galactic 'disc' at a speed of 792,000 km, and ten earth years into the orbit our galaxy makes around it's centre in our 'galactic year'. (225 million earth years in case you were wondering)

However.. our entire galaxy is accelerating away under the original force of the big bang at an approximate speed of 2.1 million km/h (which is a tricky one to measure since it was actually space itself that was stretching in the early period of the universe's expansion, but we measure it against the cosmic background radiation anyway so it's ok)

So to answer your question... f**k knows really. ;)

    Ireland will be united.
In order to diminish any problems resulting from this, Larne will be rented to the Russians as a naval base.

Back to the dark ages due to WWIII.

    Fuel will be almost non-existent.

Phones, computers, Kindles etc all will become useless as a result.

Lidl will sell Solar powered bicycles.

With the rate everything is moving at now, I've no idea.

I'm most interested in technology, really can't wait to see what's out in even just five years. Also the film industry, wonder where that'll end up. CGI will become even better since computers will be more powerful to render more realistic detail faster. Early adapters will be buying their new 85"+ 8K TVs that are as thin as a €2 coin. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Twos will be out and even more outdated compared to PCs than PS4 and Xbone are lol.

Really wanna see renewable energy seriously come into the mainstream for the average household.

My prediction for this is virtual reality films courtesy of oculus rift equivalents that you can actually experience from inside the movie.

So pretty much a holodeck. ;)

I see the vast devastation of man in the wild, untamed wilderness of some archaic planet. The broken, dismembered shreds of humankind dwell in chaotic and un-embellished landscapes devoid of any kind of hope. Migrant nomadic tribes eek out existence in packs like wild dogs, feeding off a dry land and the empty remains of waterbeds.
There will be no justice and the sun will burn holes in the day.

2005 was much better. We had all the inventions we needed. Now we've got too much, giving us shorter attention spans!

Actually technology has moved on an absolutely enormous amount in the last 10 years. In the last decade we have literally went to a majority of people having Smartphones. If you told people their phone would morph into a mini laptop over the next decade in 2005 you'd have gotten a few funny looks.

Broadband speeds are literally 10 times faster in my area. YouTube came online in 2005. Mass adoption of social media all happened in the last 10 years. Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, ect. has literally revolutionised how people interact with each other. The Arab Spring and the London riots played out very differently because of social media, they may not have even occurred in the first place. Children are being born to couples who met online. Now, everyone on earth who has an internet connection has instant access to so much information, access to every song ever recorded, every book ever written, every house that's for sale ect.

    It's a game changer.

There's going to be PhD's earned in the study of this period of history in years to come. The internet is a line in the sand. You will literally need to describe things as pre or post internet.

Ps. The last decade has brought us the Large Hadron Collider. It is the largest and most complex experimental facility ever built.

Ireland is a very very different place today compared to 20 years ago.
