i want to add a non-return valve to protect our house from sewer backflows.

ideally i'd like to do this with the plastic ajs we have in place without adding a new manhole.

do these flap like backflow prevention devices work?

what do you guys think the best options are?

    thanks,

Says on the top line of the brochure that they are for clay, salt glazed or concrete pipes only. That surely rules out PVC AJ's no ?

they are available for pvc pipes also (here for example) but i thought the installed pictures in the previous link might be useful.

is there a real risk of backflow?

    whats the fear?

ie would these be a solution to an existing problem? or a preventation measure against a future problem?

we are just completing a renovation and this would be to prevent a future problem due to a combination of factors -
    1. the sewer level and ajs are very shallow so we don't have a big buffer if a blockage occurred
    2. we dropped our gfl when renovating to get more head room reducing the distance from sewer level to floor level further
    3. the sewer passes through a neighbor before getting out to the road and he does zero maintenance (e.g. his storage tank overflow has been leaking for months) so we assume he could be slow to fix an issue and due to gfl changes we may be the first to notice any problem
