    Hi.
    Hoping someone can help.
I started a new job last November, initially on a 6 month contract.
In December I had a workplace accident and was out with my ankle on certified sick leave for 5 weeks.
Last week I received a hand injury due to a co-workers negligence and ended up missing one day.
My question is can I be let go from my job due to these 2 incidents?
Both accidents occurred in the workplace and had Doctors notes for both.
    Any info greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

In my non expert opinion you can be let go within the first year with no reason. You're the one making the assumption that it was due to the workplace injury.

If the second injury has long term implications you could sue for damages, but I don't think you've a case to put before the EAT.

Really?? Sounds like your 6 month contract is up and that's the end of it.

One last point on the doctors note.

From an employers point of view it only means he needs to excuse you from work as you'll not insured in the work place. It has not greater significance than that.

Unfortunately you are not able to avail of the protection of the Unfair dismissals acts. However they must still adhere to the terms of your contract, you should check to see what clauses in the contract cover dismissal.
