Going back to college - Where to start?

Hi Guys, I'm hoping you'll be able to shed some light on all this for me, and help point me in the right direction. So I am planning on going back to college in September of 2016 (currently working full-time saving money for it) for computing in NCI hopefully. I've wasted plenty of opportunities before to further my education but I threw them away thinking that college just isnt for me, and after a few years I've become really motivated to go back. However this lead to me being in financial instability, which is why im working to save up now.

I will be 21 going to college, and have finished my Leaving cert with average grades, (I pass min. requirements for the course, so I do believe i am eligible for it). Did nothing for a year, then went to Cavan for 1 year and completed a (relevant to the course) FETAC level 5 in May 2013.

Now where I need help is in a few small areas

    1) I was terrible in school, and have no idea now, what is the best way to apply to NCI or similar colleges. Should I go directly there and speak with them? or through the CAO? what do I need for the CAO if I do that, as ive never filled it out before.

    2) Doing this now instead of 3 years ago has made it much harder for me to financially support myself, as a lot has changed since then. with work I will have enough to cover the 4 years fees, but I will likely have to stop working due to the full time course and the workplace not being open weekends to offer me a part time position. So what grants, if any, would I be eligible to receive? or help from any other sources? This would mainly be for cost of living.

    3) Do you have any other tips/ideas for me in going back? anything I might have not considered? Any people I could contact and talk to, to view options etc.

Thanks guys, I need to try and make this work, and make up for the years and chances i feel like I wasted
