    Kitchen ideas and thoughts please

I have a dated 3.5 x 3.3 pine kitchen cream wood chip countertop I want to give kitchen a new lease of life. More space, light, a clean and fresh look walls painted magnolia and boring cream blinds.

I am torn between what works good together some combos I was thinking (there wont be lots of traffic ie big family so would be kept resonably ok)

Hi gloss with white or black countertop
Cream wood with wooden counter top
    light wood with black countertop

I dont know what works well together in terms of colours I know for sure I dont want to be forever cleaning smudges and finger prints and dont want the counter top to scratch easily. Any help appreciated.

If you don't know or have a budget for a designer best thing to do is go to lots and lots of showrooms.
Buy lots of kitchen design magazines.
    See what you do/don't like.
    Take it from there.

Black top is a nightmare to keep clean.

Thanks for that yeah just want to hear other experiences I like wood worktop but a bit expensive for me. Cos I have a small kitchen though wooden units might make it dark was going along lines of cappucino/cream and fake wood worktops. Don't know if gloss or wood is better.
