Wondering this myself, well xanax vs drink. I need to sleep tonight, but it's unlikely. do I go with xanax or some alcohol?

    Decisions decisions

Combine the two and have a couple of spliffs for a very chilled out evening.

Warm milk and some choc' chip biscuits. You'll be snoring in no time. Just the job!

Take it from someone who knows, whatever you do don't combine the two. You'll end up waking up in a police cell at best.Extremely dangerous mix.If your doc prescribed them for alcohol withdrawals fine, but only take as directed. Also xanax is not valium.Indeed, they are both Benzodiazapines, but very different creatures.I've yet to see a doctor prescribe xanax for alcohol withdraw, valium or librium yes,but not xanax.Be careful.

I take xanax any time I fly long distance, (10hrs+) in fairness it's quite enjoyable and I can see the attraction, I'm careful with it to the extent that I have made a rule for myself that I'll not take it under any other circumstances.

ps..I almost always have a gin and tonic in the airport and the in flight wine. I've yet to wake up incarcerated or "pulling" the same stunt as a certain Munster based DJ.

You should catch a flight to the UK like that Cork DJ did. Then play snakes on a plane, like that Cork DJ did!

Valium the day after a session is supposed to be a mighty job to keep the drink depression at bay.

me too. I usually have a wine on the plane and take a xanax and I'm fine. Nicely relaxed! I probably wouldn't risk a few drinks though, that's when it gets dangerous I think.

    Valium withdrawal is pure hell!

True that. I was on a massive bender of a weekend with a mate a few weeks back in Warsaw. Took a valium two nights in a row on the Fri and Sat. The withdrawl on the Sunday was hellish and lasted well in to Monday night also. Pure zombie state.

Is it wrong that I've never had, nor have any desire to have valium / xanax or any other of these seemingly hellish mind benders so many here seem to be familiar with?

    No.

Don't know about Valium, but Xanax is a mild sedative. When I take one on a flight I generally feel a heavy relaxed feeling then fall into an undisturbed sleep for 4 to 6 hours, after that i'll have a few hours of sitting in my seat perfectly able to talk but feeling relaxed and unperturbed by the uncomfortable nature of long haul economy flights.

Not really hellish or mind bending! Someone i know has then on prescription, about once or twice a year i nick one for a long haul flight. It's the most effect way to combat the misery of 12 hours in economy for me.
