    Hi Guys,
    I have to fill out the assessable spouse election form and I don't know which of the three options I should tick. The optiopns are:

    (a) If you are already being taxed as a married couple and wish to have your tax credits and standard rate band allocated as at present, please tick this box

    (b) If you wish to have your tax credits and standard rate band divided equally between you, please tick this box

    (c) If you wish to have transferable tax credits and standard rate band allocated to the assessable spouse, please tick this box;

    Im on the highest tax band and my wife has recently gone part time so is on a very low wage. Im clueless at this kinda thing. Someone said you had to send in your marriage cert as well as this years P60?

    Thanks

    No marriage cert or p60 required. When did you get married? Have a read of the attached link.

    Hey there.

    Got married last August. I had a read of that but I get so confused reading anything like to do with tax. Might be worth just giving them a ring and take it from there?

    Option (c) is the obvious choice , but it all depends on earnings / circumstances .

    Best ring and inform them how much your wife has earned so far this year in old job / how much your wife will earn for the rest of the year in new job .

    Let them know if you have kids ,as a very low wage could entitle you to home carer tax credit .
