    Hello,

I have test next week. when i turn on thr ignition the sidelights turn on inspite it being on the switch off position. Showed it to the mechnanic and he says the switch is broken i.e. inspite of it being on the switch off position it doesnt turn off completely and to get the car to Ford. Now I dont know whether I will get it fixed in time.
Would anyone have any experience whether I will be allowed to take the test or not? brake lights and indicators work perfectly fine. dipped Healights and high beam and fog lights work fine.
Just that it doesnt turn off, it turns off only when ignition is turned off.
This is my second attempt of test and atleast I want to have a chance to give a test.
Just looking to see if anyone faced this.

    Thank you very much.

I can't see that being a problem. There are plenty of cars out there that have driving lights that come on automatically once the ignition is switched on.

I doubt it would be a problem. Some cars - e.g Volvo - have them on permanently as "running lights" and it is almost standard practice in Scandinavia. If you demonstrate that you know about it and explain the situation, I'd say you will be fine. The car is roadworthy (I assume).

    I'd imagine that's fine - just hope it's sunny as he won't won't see them on :)

It isn't an NCT and having running lights on is not a transgression. However the examiner will be checking if the driver knows what is going on with the car - hence the under the bonnet test. If the testee can show that (a) he knows the lights are on (b) explain why they can't be turned off and (c) mention that he knows that leaving them on is standard practice in some countries, he will get brownie points.

Thank you very much First_Up. I hope to get some brownie points ;)
Hopefully I pass this time and wont have to worry about it any longer.

Having side-lights on at all times is not an practice in any country.
Even more - in some countries it's illegal to use sidelights (as only lights) when driving - day or night.

What is standard practice in some countries is having DRLs or dipped headlighst on 24/7. But not side-lights.
