Buying car with UK plates

Anyone know the process involved in buying a car that has been in the country since 2009, but still has UK plates?

it's a 29 year old Porsche 924, the seller says if it's registered next year when it's 30, it will only cost €200 to register it with a ZV plate.

Anyone know if I am liable for backdated VRT or is it only from the date of purchase?

Depends where it's registered I would think. If it still has a UK address and was "brought in" only now, I can't see why.
Friend of mine did exactly that, brought in a 29 and a bit year old car, waited till it was 30 and then "officially" imported it. You couldn't really use it in the meantime, you don't want to draw too much attention to it. All the "official" paperwork would have to have the right dates on it, I would reckon.
No point telling that crowd more than necessary. Unless customs might have spotted it, so it would be better to keep it under the radar.

Thanks for the reply. I did a UK car check and that came up as neither exported or imported, and the last transaction on the UK logbook seems to be 2009. So it seems like it's technically "still in the UK", even though its been here for 6 years off the road. If I bought the car now, fixed it up over the next year, then go to register it when it turns 30, would the revenue ask for import documents etc, or would they just stamp it and give me a ZV plate, no questions asked?

Might give the VRT and NCTS offices a call and see what they say. They'll probably just say don't buy the car!
