For a few years now Ive been looking to apply for the Air Corp, I already went to CIT and got a Bachelor of Science degree in Transport Management and Technology, was going to join the Air Corp as a school leaver but decided to get my degree first instead. Then I saw the competition posted for this year and said Id enter it as it would be a great dream of mine since I was little.
Anyone on here that can give me tips on what to expect from the Cadetship competition and how to prepare yourself mentally and physically for it?
I know theres only 9 places up for grabs this year but Im determined to try anyway
Any information on how to prepare myself for it would be great guys and also of what to expect, the testing procedures, etc. :)
Would it be an advantage that I have a degree in Transport ?

It helps when you know the name of the organisation you want to join... Your transport qualification will be next to useless, unless you fail your flight training and are sent to the army.

Right lad, god forbid I forgot to add the "s" at the end of it on boards.ie
Well Im contemplating also applying for the naval service cadetship and army cadetship aswell in the hope I'll get one, but I would much prefer the Air Corps

There is a Military board here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=659

It has discussions on cadetships and recruitment.

Also, remember you have to pick your battles wisely. Not every conflict is worth turning into a major battle. :)

Unfortunately, attention to detail is a huge aspect of the military. In the big picture a typo can fcuk a lot of stuff up for you. Giving briefs at strategic level to the General Staff, compiling various Orders which have to be understood and followed by subordinates. A different interpretation can yield a different mission result. I know it was only the omittance of an 's' and surely it can't make a difference....it can.

Do a good bit of research on the 3 branches and see where you are currently more suited to.

As Testicle said, your educational qualifications would be better served in the Transport Corps in the Army.

Ask yourself what you want out of a military career. The fact that you are willing to accept a cadetship in either branch really won't get you good advice.

Do you want to be on ships for an extended period of time? Do you want to be a pilot and leave after 12 years to fly commercial airlines? Do you want to lead an active boots on the ground life, stressed out if your face while trapsing across the mountain?

Think abou what you want if you do get in, then ask a few specific questions and someone here might be able to help you out.

I advise you to loose the attitude though. There's people here that can and will advise a genuine person.

    Good luck.

I know what I want to get out of it.
My dream is to be a pilot in the Air Corps and has been for a long time now, its just the fact that its very difficult to get into, its not exactly something everyone can do even if they are willing and able.
However I would like to become a cadet in any sector of the army as I see it as a very stable, interesting, and not so boring career choice.

I dont have an attitude in real life, but people looking to nitpick at things on internet forums bothers me alot and I dont take kindly to people who spend their time on these forums trying to bring down others or poke holes in what they say, Im aware that the army is full of attention to detail, but Im not going to have that same attention to detail on an internet forum, so relax a bit !

    Hi

I made it to the interview stages of the air corps back in 2013.

The interview is quite tough, they ask a lot on leadership, motivation, engines and flight!!!

Chances of anyone getting in is pretty slim, they take about 5 a year and can pretty easily siff through those who really want it.

Degrees such as engineering, physics and mathematics will help you stand out plus a CV with a list of accomplishments.

I wouldn't get my hopes up though, they want high achievers, and if you can't prove that you won't get in.
