Should I try to keep this to a one page minimum with a cover letter stating my arrival in Canada, the type of visa I have and the date from which I can work? Any other tips?

If going over on the IEC Work/Holiday Visa? If so, most places won't respond unless you have a SIN number (that you get when you land), as well as a Canadian mobile number. Also, I doubt you'll be getting in any time soon.
