House sharing and rent allowance

    Hi all,

I've been on rent allowance for 2.5 years, I'm a lone parent. My landlady's niece is moving in in September so I'm getting the boot. I have been looking high and low for the last 6 months for somewhere I can afford based on the budget given to me by the SW (€950pm). As you can imagine, I've had no luck given current Dublin rent prices.

My question is what is the deal with house sharing? I have a friend in a similar position and we were thinking of moving in together with both of our daughters - desperate times and all that. The problem is that I've heard that you cannot get rent allowance if you house share. Is this true? And if not, how does it work?

Thanks for any info in advance
