Australia best fares

Hi all, first time poster in this corner of boards.

I'm hoping to go to Australia for a few weeks in July/August of 2016. I've been there quite a few times before but this will be the first time in a few years. Also fair to say that personal circumstances have changed in the meantime (mortgage etc) meaning that a difference of a couple of hundred euro that mightn't have mattered then could make a bigger difference now.

So essentially I'm hoping someone close to the travel trade (airline, travel agent etc) could objectively advise about how long in advance the best fares are generally released. I'm pretty sure now is way too early and besides I wouldn't really have the funds to hand just yet! I also know that anytime I contact trailfinders etc, their mindset will be to get the sale there and then:) I'm thinking about 9-12 months out. Is there anything to back that up or could anyone advise me better?

    Many thanks!

For July/August next year, flights more than likely won't be bookable until September of this year at the earliest, and even then you might be looking at silly fares

Your best bet would be to use Skyscanner to set up fare alerts for your chosen destination... I used them recently for a trip I'm planning to take in August to Bangkok.. I had planned to fly Emirates via Dubai but I'm flying via Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur.. It means the journey is 4 hours longer but it's €200 cheaper!

July/August is peak season for travel in Ireland (and off peak/slow season here in Aus due to crappy winter weather).

Where are you thinking of going? It will affect which airline you can fly and so affect prices.

Best off-the-cuff advice is January sales 2016. Airlines always have sales and it'll be your best chance for most availability.

For the best flight deals to OZ, i follow the holiday pirates facebook page - they post them up whenever there are sales. Some of them however involve open jaw, such as flying out of one country and then back into another. Flying at that time of year you should be abke to get decent prices as it's not peak season for OZ, as long as you avoid school holidays. I flew home in Dec for under €500 rtn, the yr before was about €700 and the trip before that about €550, so it is possible to get good deals. Flights wouldn't be available to book until generally 330days out.
