Is this imported in to Ireland at all? Any attempt at searching just throws up cocktail menus mentioning they use it, but not a single retailer.

Would prefer to buy in a shop rather than risk a non-Irish web store and the vague risk of customs (even though I've never heard of Master of Malt, Whiskey Exchange or Flaviar being stopped - I don't want to be the first!)

    O'Brien's used to sell it.

Its not on their website (although I know it doesn't show every product in every store, just the online orderable ones) - I'll give my nearest branch a ring though.

Are the only places I can source them. Never saw it in a store (online or otherwise) in Ireland.

I'll bite the bullet and get it from MoM - may have to suffer the horror of buying something else to make the delivery seem reasonable!

Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dublin sell Peychauds and many other bitters.

Out of stock the last two times I've tried. Apparently they're back in on Wednesday though; I'm going to call in advance though.

Was told some stores they'd re-sold them to - first one I called told me to phone the Celtic!

Weird, I wouldn't have thought they would be in a high enough demand that the CWS would sellout of them. It's a bitters that isn't used in that many cocktails - the Sazerac being the main one - though I'm not too up on present trends. It's handy to have if you want to experiment with your own recipes but for homemade cocktails Angostura and an orange bitters does me fine.

I think it's more low enough demand that the stock doesn't get replaced fast.

What are you wanting to use the Peychaud's for? I find it's not as versatile as other bitters, it has a kind of fruity cherry like taste to it and an intense pink hue.

Harvey Nichols has it listed on their site and there is one in Dundrum if you're near there. http://www.harveynichols.com/557788-bitters/

If you're really really desperate, find a good cocktail bar that has peychauds and ask to buy some from them, you might get lucky!

Btw I'd recommend The Bitter Truth celery bitters which is quite an interesting bitters. Expensive as f**k though.

Sazeracs specifically. Have a friend who's fairly endeared with them and I don't mind them myself.

I haven't had a Sazerac with Absinthe rinse as I cannot justify buying a bottle just for drink. And I'm not even sure if the Absinthe available is of good quality - afaik the good stuff "louches" or turns cloudy when a sugar cube and water is added. David Embury does question the use of Absinthe in his book though...

Rye is also a bit more pricier than bourbon.

Would love to go to New Orleans someday to sample all the whiskey cocktails all the same.

I have the absinthe and the rye - although if I'm doing it cheap and nasty I'd use Pernod and bourbon...
